Wednesday, 13 August 2026, was a landmark day for SAMENTA and the SME community, with two major events running in parallel — the SAMENTA Hyperlokal AI Fest 2026 at Microsoft in Kuala Lumpur and the CelcomDigi MY5G SME Digital Workshop 2026 at The Light Hotel in Penang.

In Kuala Lumpur, the SAMENTA Hyperlokal AI Fest 2026 was hosted at Microsoft (M) Sdn Bhd, Level 18, Menara Shell, Brickfields, drawing a full house of SME owners eager to explore practical AI adoption.
SAMENTA’s Digitalisation and AI Director, Christopher, opened the session with an overview of SAMENTA’s role in the Hyperlokal initiative — a nationwide movement to bring practical, business-ready AI directly to SMEs in every state and city, rather than keeping it in the capital.
He explained why SAMENTA is running this initiative: too many Malaysian SMEs are still at the awareness stage, while businesses that act now can build a real competitive edge. The Hyperlokal tour exists to remove the barriers — access, cost and know-how — so that no business is left behind in the AI revolution. Digitalisation and AI are no longer optional upgrades; they are the foundation for productivity, growth and long-term survival in an increasingly digital economy.
Christopher also emphasised SAMENTA’s role as the voice and enabler for SMEs — connecting members with technology partners, industry experts and practical roadmaps, and ensuring that AI adoption is driven by real business outcomes rather than hype.
CelcomDigi MY5G SME Digital Workshop 2026 (Penang)
Meanwhile in Penang, the CelcomDigi MY5G SME Digital Workshop 2026 took place at The Light Hotel, with SAMENTA proudly serving as a supporting partner under the SAMENTA AI FEST Hyperlokal initiative.
The full-day workshop brought SME owners together to learn practical digital marketing and social media strategies, including sessions from Dr Henry Tye, who shared the latest trends in agentic AI — AI systems that do more than answer questions, planning, deciding and executing tasks autonomously.
Dr Henry also highlighted how virtual AI staff can help SMEs operate like much larger organisations, referencing the OPC (One Person Company) trend in China, where entrepreneurs build entire businesses around AI-powered virtual teams — covering marketing, customer service, content creation and operations with just a handful of AI agents.
An interactive poll during the session revealed just how fast behaviour is changing — 80% of attendees said they now use AI to search for information, while fewer than 30% raised their hands to say they still rely on Google. The message was clear: the way businesses and consumers find, compare and trust information has already shifted.
The workshop also featured Hiro Tan, Founder of Malaysia’s household bakery RotiBoy, and Hubert Lee of HVerse, an influential content creator with millions of followers, sharing practical digital marketing and social media strategies alongside other industry leaders.
