William Ng Re-Elected SAMENTA National President for 2026/2029 Term, Unveils AI & ESG Agenda
SAMENTA National President Datuk William Ng has been re-elected unopposed to lead the association for the 2026/2029 term, following the association’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).
With over 1.1 million MSMEs looking to SAMENTA, Ng stated that the mandate is clear: “Growth Beyond Survival”.
“We are not here to maintain the status quo. Close ranks and get to work. The economic landscape is shifting rapidly with AI adoption, fiscal reforms, and ESG mandates. Our role is to be a relentless, forward-thinking taskforce for Malaysian businesses. Time to roll up our sleeves, push for structural reforms, and deliver real, tangible value on the ground.”
The newly elected National Council combines seasoned industry advocates with deep sector specialists across digital tech, finance, and manufacturing, reflecting the increasingly complex economic landscape local businesses face in 2026.
Four Priority Pillars for 2026-2029
Under Ng’s continued leadership, SAMENTA has outlined four progressive priority pillars:
Accelerated AI Integration & Digitalisation — moving beyond basic digital presence to embed deep-tech capabilities and automated workflows into traditional SME operations.
Aggressive Policy Advocacy & Structural Reform — lobbying for a level playing field for SMEs, a streamlined foreign labour framework, and simplified bureaucratic processes.
Made by Malaysia Transition — driving SMEs to transition from OEMs to IP owners, allowing them to compete globally rather than in low-margin domestic price wars.
Adoption of ESG and Circularity — assisting SMEs to navigate ESG and circular economy adoption to strengthen their supply chain presence.
SAMENTA will also scale up its highly targeted ground programmes, including the ongoing 50 Hyperlocal AI Fest, ASEAN’s first Circular Economy Certification, RetailTech+, and its Digitalisation Grader tool.
Ng added: “Our ultimate goal is to actively groom the next generation of industry leaders while ensuring that efficient, digitalised bureaucracy becomes a reality for businesses on the ground. SAMENTA will remain a formidable force in shaping national economic policies that protect and empower the ultimate backbone of the Malaysian economy.”
